Totz2teens member Review: Frightened and with trepidation I
opened this book thinking am I going to feel completely stupid. Do my
kids really know more than me. Will I be able to remember anything.
Well to be honest there was no need to feel worried. On a day trip out
I spent the time holding bags and clutching this book. I read about
the terribly confusing issues of the English language - which I pray I dont
get asked about because it sort of went in one ear and out the other but I
now know where to look when I do get asked. I spent the day saying
"Did you know" much to the amusement of my family. I feel quite
educated now LOL. The icing on the cake was when I was watching a tv
quiz later that day and there was a question about prime ministers which I
answered. NOW I definately know I would not have been able to do that
without this book. So I did learn something after all. The
beauty of this book is that you can pick the bit that you fancy learning
about. I will definately be carrying this in the car because it opens
up conversations amongst us all and also helps everyone refresh our
memories. An excellent easy to read book which we as a family
are happy to recommend.

Totz2teens Member Review: When my mum told me about this book I
hunted out my crazy bones - lucky I kept them. I wasn't aware of GO GO
ones but now I am I am saving my pocket money for some more. The book
taught me lots of really interesting things about the game. I didn't
know it comes from the Greek people playing games. This book showed me
different ways you can play and not just the ones my friends at school had
shown me. I really liked being the one to tell them about different
games to play and this book is an interesting and fun read.

Proust and
the Squid by Maryanne Wolf
ISBN: 9781848310308 £8.99
Proust and the Squid was in Publishers Weekly's 'Best
Books of 2007' - described as 'a path breaking look at the reading brain'.
How the brain learned to read is a startling reminder of the amazing
achievements of humankind. 'We were never born to read', says Maryanne
Wolf. 'No specific genes ever dictated reading's development. Human beings
invented reading only a few thousand years ago. And with this invention, we
changed the very organisation of our brain, which in turn expanded the ways
we were able to think, which altered the intellectual evolution of our
species. 'In Proust and the Squid , Maryanne Wolf explores our brains'
near-miraculous ability to arrange and rearrange themselves in response to
external circumstances. Wolf, a world expert on the reading brain, brings
both a personal passion and a deft style to this incredible story. A pop
science masterpiece on a subject that anyone who loves reading will be sure
to find fascinating.
