ISBN: 978-0-340-93219-3 £5.99
Shiraz Bailey Wood has made up her mind. She's
leaving Goodmayes, waving goodbye to Mayflower Academy Sixth Form and her
part time job at Mr Yolk and moving to London with Carrie Draper. Carrie's
got herself a place at Tabitha Tennant's beauty school, so she's sorted. Now
all Shiraz has to focus on is getting herself a job. She has a bit of
trouble finding the most suitable job, nothing seems quite right for a girl
of Shiraz's originality and wit...And she has to admit, she's missing her
family - even Murphy - something rotten. But Shiraz BW will not give up -
she's going to finish what she started, even if she does keep looking out of
the crappy flat window to see if there's a Banana Yellow Golf parked up
front...

Kit's Wilderness
by David Almond
ISBN: 978-0-340-94496-7 £5.99
Kit has just moved to Stoneygate with his family, to live with his ageing
grandfather who is gradually succumbing to Alzheimer's Disease. Stoneygate
is an insular place, scarred by its mining history - by the danger and death
it has brought them. Where the coal mine used to be there is now a
wilderness. Here Kit meets Askew, a surly and threatening figure who
masterminds the game called Death, a frightening ritual of hypnotism; and
Kit makes friends with Allie, the clever school troublemaker. As Kit
struggles to adjust to his new life and the gradual failing of his beloved
grandfather, these two friendships pull him towards a terrifying resolution.
Haunted by ghosts of the past, Kit must confront death and - ultimately -
life.
Totz2teens Member Review:
A very dramatic story of family life in an old coal mining
town called Stoneygate. A boy called Kit returns there to care for his
grandfather who's health is deteriorating. He is with his mum and dad and
joins the local school.
Subsequently he joins a group of children with a leader called Askew who has
a darker side. They play a game called death, and only Askew and Kit are
truly effected by it and can see shadow of ghosts, young children lost in
the mines years ago. The story has twists and turns, loss and sadness,
friendship and deep morals. This book had me gripped, suitable for 9 up,
bearing in mind it is a very deep read .

Oliver who would not
sleep by Mara Bergman
ISBN: 978-0-340-89329-6 £5.99
Oliver Donnington Rimington Sneep couldn't and didn't and would not sleep.
It's not that he is afraid of the dark, or monsters, or robbers or sounds
from the park. But Oliver Donnington Rimington Sneep likes staying awake
more than going to sleep. Join Oliver on his journey to Mars and back before
he finally, finally, finally goes to sleep. Superb bedtime tale, told in
rhyme and great to read aloud, with stunning illustrations from award-winner
Nick Maland.
Totz2teens Member Review: Oliver is a really lovely story about
a boy that just wont go to sleep. We enjoyed reading this and we had
great fun talking about what we could do to keep us awake. I
personally sympathised with the parents as the fact they were sitting on the
stairs so that told me they have got to the end of their tether with this
child. I did really feel for them. Charming book.

Totz2teens Member Review: The meerkats are delightful in this
super story about Marvin and how they face up to the Buzzard Brothers who

The Sleepwalker
by Robert Muchamore
ISBN: 978-0-340-93183-7 £6.99
An airliner explodes over the Atlantic leaving 345 people dead. Crash
investigators suspect terrorism, but they're getting nowhere. A distressed
twelve-year-old calls a police hotline and blames his father for the
explosion. It could be a breakthrough, but there's no hard evidence and the
boy has a history of violence and emotional problems. Only CHERUB agents can
unearth the truth. They're trained professionals with one essential
advantage: adults never suspect that children are spying on them. For
official purposes, these children do not exist.

One of a series, I feel that isn't
just a book you could pick up and get straight away. It's obviously leading
on from a series so for those that are fans I imagine this is one worth
waiting for.. It seemed to wander a bit for me and referred to things that
happened in past books so i did get a bit lost. The story line however was
average but i have read better and it didn't make me want to collect the
next in the series or the one before.... Sorry!

Clementine by Sarah Pennypacker
ISBN: 978-0-340-95696-0 £6.99
Clementine seems to be constantly in trouble...Firstly, for cutting off
Margaret's hair - don't they know she was just trying to help? Secondly, for
not paying attention in class - just because she's paying attention to
something other than maths, doesn't mean she's not paying attention! And
thirdly, for the Black Hole, which is her bedroom - it's not like she means
to lose things there, that's just the nature of the Black Hole! Perhaps it's
time for Clementine to change...or perhaps not!
Totz2teens member Review: Clementine is a
delightful,
lovable and totally unpredictable child who has her own way of looking at
the world which works so well in this tale. My daughter reviewed this
book for us and she says that it was great fun to read and clementine is a
bit of a nightmare but this is what made the book so good to read.

The Last of the
Warrior Kings by Sarah Mussi
ISBN: 978-0-340-90322-3 £5.99
It's a snowy evening, South London. From a bus, Max Wolf and his brother
Angelo see a gang ominously tracking a well-known rapper, Mogul King,
through the dark streets. Minutes later, Mogul King boards the bus, presses
a parcel into Max's hands, exacts an incomprehensible promise, and jumps off
again - to his death. The parcel contains an extraordinary ancient bronze
dagger, and within hours Max is running for his own life through London, his
brother, Angelo, is dead, apparently the victim of a gang drive-by shooting,
and his friend, Sapphire, is next on the hit list. But everything is not as
it seems. Everything leads the British Museum. Everything began with the
ill-fated British Punitive Expedition of 1897 and the looting of the
fabulous Benin Bronzes from Nigeria over a hundred years ago. In an
intriguing dual storyline, Max's racing first person narrative story is
offset by a scrap book of letters, memoirs, drawings, photos and journal
entries, by one Hugh Hardy, Gunner aboard the Theseus , and foot soldier on
that ruinous expedition over a century ago.
Totz2teens Member Review:
Max is a 14 yr old black hoody from South London. The story
dips into the historical past of Englands involvement in Africa. Max is
given an ancient bronze dagger who's owner is killed, subsequently his
brother gets shot and suddenely he and all his friends are on a hit list.
A fast paced story mixing past and present, suitable for teenagers. I
enjoyed the content of this and if you enjoy historical links then you'll
love this.

Life at the Shallow End
by Helen Bailey
ISBN: 9780340945384 £5.99
Electra's family is falling apart. Her dad's moving out, her mum's given in
to her daytime TV addiction, and her little brother (aka The Little Runt)
has just been caught shoplifting. Even the guinea-pig's gone mental. And all
Electra can think about is whether green eyeliner compliments or clashes
with blue eyes. Where can a girl turn in her hour of need? To her best
friends, of course. Together, they think up a plan: persuading the class
geek to stalk her dad seemed like a good idea at the time ...
Totz2teens Member Review: Electra
Brown is a typical teenager with normal worries, homework, will the hunk
ever notice her and will she ever grown into her face. Until her dad has a
midlife crisis and decides to go back to live with his mother. Mum is in
love with chocolate and daytime TV and her little brother turns to
shoplifting but she has her friends and enemies to help her through it.
I found this book both funny but also very sad. Should be made compulsory
reading for all parents when splitting up as a reminder that kids are people
too.

ISBN: 9780340911655 £5.99
'Edie,' said George, 'we're going to do this
together. I'll be right there with you. Anything, anyone
trying to get you is going to have to come past me first.' But
when George makes his promise he is not aware that high on the
rooftops an unseen gargoyle is watching them hungrily,
quivering with anticipation for the moment when it will unfold
its stone wings and pounce. The thing on the roof knows that
nothing is over; nothing is finished. Ironhand takes us deeper
into the layers of un-London, the place where the good and the
bad statues, the spits and the taints, walk and war. George
and Edie must repay the debt which they owe the Gunner for his
sacrifice. They must face unspeakable danger and doubt if they
are to save him. This second title in the Stoneheart sequence

Totz2teens Member Review: Jade thinks she is a normal child
with a normal family, untill her normal reality is shattered. She can make a
persons deepest fears come to life, she can see straight into a persons
soul. She soon realises this is not due to her parents or just a turn of
fate, but that she was made that way by the original mad scientist Dr Kobal.
Her DNA has been messed with and she has powers, that simply arnt human. She
is whisked away to a hostpital for the insane by her aunty who isnt really
her aunty and that is were she meets her dad, Dr Kobal who explains that he
is her father and takes her to test her abilaties and fight the people that
want her dead, simply because of what she is.
This is an interesting book, filled with twists and turns, it incorperates
science and fantasy making it a great book, although some parts are dull if
you stick with it it has an unexpected ending and a good plot.

Benway

overweight, but her best friend is awesome, and her parents might be

likes her music loud. So she struggles with dumping her musician boyfriend,
Evan. She loves his band, but he's just too self-involved. Audrey needs to
move on. Then at one of Evan's gigs, Audrey gets to hear their brand new
single and moving on doesn't seem so easy now: the song is called Audrey,
Wait" and it's all about her, and not in a good way ...The song storms
quickly up the charts and reaches the top. Suddenly everyone wants to know:
who is Audrey"? The media is all overher like a rash, and what startedout as
annoying is becoming a nightmare! On top of this, it is ruining her chances
with James, her colleague at ScooperDooper ice cream parlour. Audrey's life
is veering out of control and there's only one thing for it. She's going to
have to stand up and tell the world her side of the story ...
Totz2teens member review:
This is a truly hilarious book that
explores the flip side of fame. Audrey is an ordinary teenager, with an
ordinary job and an ordinary boy friend-untill the song. When Audrey broke
up with Evan, a talented musician, he walks away battered and bruised, and
some what broken hearted. That night, the night of the break up just so
happens to be the night the band gets there lucky break and the night the
song "Audrey Wait" is born. The song rockets to the top the charts, its
played in on every radio station ,is on everyone's iPod, and Audrey's name
without her permission is suddenly on everyone's lips. With story's being
printed about her left right and centre, and the paperatsi following her
every move, Audrey feels claustrophobic and she turns for support to her
best friend the wacky yet headstrong Victoria, and James a man of few words
that she works with. Soon James and Audrey spiral off into an ideal romance,
that spells happy ending, then the video comes out and shatters everything
Audrey had only just put right, its up to Audrey to save the day.
