Child age 7:The
illustrations were good. They went well with the stories and looked like
mosaics. I liked it that there was different stories in the book, it made it
more interesting. Having the CD was nice you could listen if you didnt want
to read. The stories were easy to read, sometimes a bit too easy.
Parent: My child enjoyed reading the stories but they were a bit easy
for someone of her reading ability. But I do thing it would be just right
for an average 7/8 year old. It was nicely set out and the illustrations
helped tell the story well. A lovely book for girls who love stories about
princesses but like a good story too.

A great read. My son had the cd on at bedtime and said it was
BRILLIANT. His words. The stories are not ordinary pirate
stories. They are full of charm. The stories themselves derive
from different countries and this in its self make it an interesting
read. I would recommend this to any good reader or a child that
likes to listen and follow the story.

This is a book that tells
the ancient Chinese tale of how the Chinese Calendar Years were named and
how they ended up in the order they did. My daughter(6) and Son (9) both
enjoyed this book but it was a little beyond my young daughter3) as the
language used was very advanced. The illustrations were lovely and it is a
lovely book for the older child. Mine were especially pleased to find out
what Chinese animal symbol they were born under and there's a list at the
back of the book complete with a short synopsis of the main traits. I cant
honestly say that in a book shop I would choose this type of book for my
children but I was pleasantly surprised at their reaction to it and they
have taken the book and run off into the dining room with it to read again
and peruse at their leisure

These elegant humorous fables will keep children
entertained while teaching them important lessons. For this
collection, award-winning translator Ranjit Bolt has chosen the best of
La Fontaine's fables, presenting each entry in a lyrical, witty and
light-hearted verse. Equally captivating is the art of illustrator
Giselle Potter, who has interpreted each story with the whimsical charm
that has won her many admirers.

Well my son and I thought this book was lovely.
Vibrant drawings and a new not religious look at the song "He's got
the whole world". It discusses the world at the end of the book so
also has some educational aspects as well as fun. It comes with a sing
along CD which i must confess i haven't listened to yet as he is more
likely to run off and leave me listening to it so I just sang him the song
and made him do silly actions. Its definitely a book for under 5's however
the educational part makes it a bit interesting for say and older brother
or sister to read after baby has listened to the song!

colours make it worth it!

What a bright cheerful book. My children were keen to read this
book and were very drawn by the covers. We learnt about Mexican festivals
and having the words to translate made that whole Mexican feeling go
on. I think I may get this out again and perhaps incorporate some
different food to try too for that whole round experience.

A lovely rhyming book,
the illustrations are lovely and promote lots of extra talk about the
story. The journey along the Nile is told in a lovely calming way that
would make this a wonderful story for bedtimes. They people on the journey
meet lots of different types of people and see lots of different
landscapes which led to a good talk on how places differ. Also because of
the rhyming it helps children recognise the sound of words and join in
once they have heard it a few times. There is also a lovely brief history
of the Ages of Egypt which my son found interesting. Unfortunately the
story was a little young for a six year old, there was not really enough
content to keep his attention. I think it would be better for a 3-4 year
old. I'd definitely buy it for younger children, it's a well presented
book that is lovely to share.

A lovely version of an old traditional tale of
the problems for the old man and the old lady in pulling up a gigantic
turnip.
The illustrations are detailed, amusing, cleverly and beautifully
drawn. The story has lots of repetition that kids love, with lots of
counting of the animals that help the old man and old lady to pull up the
turnip and it also refers to nature about how things grow.
Ideal length for a bedtime story - not too short, not too long.
Certainly a book children can grow into. Adults can read it to the tots
and a good book for the older child to try to read with an adult. Would
make a lovely present because it is so beautifully presented. It's
great fun to read aloud. It does come with a CD so older children can
follow the story with the CD and book or you can let your little tot
listen to the CD safely in the knowledge you've not resorted to CBeebies
again.
A firm favourite on our bookcase already.

to parents and children all over the world.

all over the world in order to develop a connection between China and the
West, and between adoptive culture and birth culture.
Xinran, the acclaimed Chinese author, broadcaster and
journalist, is the founder of Mother Bridge of Love. She is also well-known
for her best-selling books The Good Women of China: Hidden Voices, an
account of the extreme difficulties and injustices facing women in China,
and Sky Burial, the epic story of one woman's search for the truth.
Totz2teens Review: This is a moving emotional
book. It is produced in a charming, light way but it certainly tugs at
your heart strings. I would really recommend this for any child that
has been adopted or as a book you wish to show them perhaps about a friend
or relative that has been adopted. It helps answer some of those
little niggley feelings that you may have about adoption. The book is
based on a poem. The storyline of the poem is of the love of both the
adoptive mother from the west and the Chinese birth mother. I think
the book is produced in a graceful way and is a great addition to your
bookshelf. Totz2teens Rating: 5/5

in Beijing. The story tells of Little Leap Forward's simple life and
how he captures a little bird called Little Cloud. He keeps her in a
cage in the courtyard but she doesnt sing. His friends say she should
be freed but Little Leap Forwrad loves her and wants to keep her.
Finally after his special friend has to leave for safety he realises that
Little Cloud has to be freed. He is however rewarded when she comes

It was written well and it was nice to experience a different lifestyle.
It was also interesting to read about the author and childhood in china in

motion a small calamity, and Dad gets the blame. But when his daughter

As many a mummy will know its always an odd experience to let the man do the
shopping - however un-pc that is. So this mum has made a list.
The pictures in this book are funny and quirky which add to the charm.
The story itself didnt flow as easily as I had hoped but we still enjoyed
reading this book and my kids seemed to have liked it too.

giraffes, zebras and many other creatures. But the animal to look out for is
the hippo and finally with a loud splash, you find him!
Totz2teens Member Review: A Rhymy bouncy book which was a
pleasure to read. The story is about a child looking for hippos.
They are actually hidden on each page but the child is seeing other animals
so it adds another perspective to the story. Also we had fun counting
the animals and finding each hippo on the page. This book is well
thought out and the extra addition of the information about animals at the
back of the book was a fabulous surprise.
