- There are over 27 species of foxes,
including the Red Fox, the Gray Fox, the Arctic Fox, the Kit Fox and
the Fennec Fox
- The Red Fox is the most common
species of the foxes and the one most likely to be seen in your
garden

- Male foxes are known as ‘dogs,’
while female foxes are known as ‘vixens’
- When the hunting is good, foxes will
bury food for future use.
- At birth, red foxes are actually
brown or grey. A new red coat usually grows by the end of the
first month.
- A baby fox is referred to as a 'kit'
- Adult foxes usually chortle ‘wuk...wuk...wuk’
to let their kits know that they have caught some food for them.
- Foxes signal each other by making
scent posts—urinating on trees or rocks to announce their presence.
- The fox is the smallest member of
the dog family.
- Foxes usually have 4-5 pups, born in
the spring.
